Oh yeah...I have a blog

Greetings,

It occurred to me that I have a blog and that it would probably be nice if I wrote in it occasionally. So tonight I will give you not one, but two exciting updates on the amazing life of the Baron.

Basically, after school got out I went home for a couple weeks, which was cool. It's always nice to see my family and my cats, even if Hannah isn't around anymore. Mostly I sat around and did nothing. I guess I hung out with some friends from high school and got stuff ready for school and whatnot.

For most of the summer so far I've been in Los Angeles, CA at UCLA, where I am doing a physics/astronomy REU. Basically that means I sit around and work on an astronomy research project all summer and get paid a little bit to do it. The particular project I'm working on is to figure out how strong the magnetic field in the center of our galaxy is, mostly by modeling it while making a few assumptions. So far I've actually made a decent amount of progress, which is good. In 2 or 3 weeks I need to wrap up my work, since I still will have to write a paper and make a presentation about what I did before going back to UW for marching band.

Most of the people in the summer program with me are pretty cool. But none of them are as cool as I am, as evidenced by their lack of physics-fighting alter-egos named after a chemical element, which is not surprising since I am amazingly cool. Yes, I don't think I could say that with a straight face. Anyway, since physicists tend to be weird, I have learned lots of strange things about a variety of topics, ranging from vegan restaurants in Chicago to communication with aliens on the sun via tachyons. In what free time I have, I play WoW and practice my mellophone. Overall I am enjoying this summer a lot I guess, which is good.

Stay tuned for part 2 of this post, which I'm sure will be almost interesting!
